A New Home for an Old House

loghouseThis log house built by the Esterly family in 1867 will soon be leaving its 150 years of residence in Columbiana to its new home at The Pioneer Village at Beaver Creek State Park.

Built by the Esterly family, family member Cindy DePillo has been living in the old log home until just recently. Wanting to preserve its rich history of the area, she has donated it to The Friends of Beaver Creek State Park. The volunteer group was very appreciative and excited for the offer, having lost the Williams House in 2013, due to a lightning strike; it would definitely be a welcoming site in the vacant spot that only memories occupy.

After a year of meetings with state Park officials we were finally granted permission to move the structure to the land leased by The Friends group.  Although donated The Friends still have many financial obligations to meet including state permits, engineering and architectural requirements, foundation and the disassembling and reassembling of the house. The house has been recently vacated and now we take on the chore of disassembling it and moving it to the village will it will be reassembled on a new foundation.

We need many volunteers and would welcome services donated to complete this historical task. Anyone wishing to help may contact Dan Lyon at 330 853-9940.  We are all ready to start and will be working intermittently as weather permits.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by sending it to Friends of Beaver Creek State Park, PO Box 2063, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920 and designate house fund.

The origin of many photographs can not be documented. It believed that Foster Shattuck, a past Columbiana County Forest and Parks Council volunteer, is the source for many of the older photographs that were used in press releases, park brochures and educational materials. Other photographs were taken by Penn State Beaver Campus students as part of a website class project. Dennis Smith and other FOBCSP volunteer took several of the recent photographs. Images and content displayed on this web site are part of the Friends of Beaver Creek State Park (FOBCSP), Pioneer Village Collection.
